Sure did. Those interceptions killed them. Coulda been 6-0 at the half.

i was waiting for some of the rye cove fans to attack the coach at halftime....man, he made some bonehead moves. 1 minute left in the half, rye cove on their own 35 with a 4th and 5, coach decides to go for it....goes over on downs to appy, they run the halfback straight up the middle for a pass on the very next play, defensive back trips on his own feet, wide open td for appy.

appy kicks off, 46 seconds left when rc gets ball around 12 yard line....coach calls an option half-back pass...hb cathes pitch on 5 yard line, has to retreat to get hb pass off, ends up throwing ball up for grabs while being tackled near the goal line....well you guessed it, appy intercepts, scores again two plays later.

appy would have won the game, but the coach for cove didn't give his kids a chance.

    Re: appy vs. rye cove

That seems to be the case with a lot of teams these days: coaching. It ain't what it used to be. Even Phil Robbins seems to be slipping in his old age. When Appy went to Castlewood I thought they[Castlewood] looked like a good size capable team. But the coaching killed them. Same for the Cove. That RB they have could go. Big capable kid. Bad coaching killed them. Even Appy's coaching has been a little suspect as of late, but they made progress in this game. They ran a completely different formation tonight. Split 2 wide and had the 2 backs lined up horizontally. Not an I and not the full house. Kind of a combination of both. Is there a name for that formation? And they even went to the shotgun a few times. And the biggest thing that got me was they passed on the first play of the game. It wasn't a completion, but it wasn't the run you'd expect from them either. And I have to give kudos to the team for all the blocking I saw. They really played some good ball. Yeah, I know it was against the Cove, but with better coaching this one could have went the other way. And I'm not saying I could do better. I'm no coach and probably never will be. It's just one of those things where you can see something and you have to wonder what they were thinking.

It's the same formation that Carson Newman runs out of. They run the split back veer though.

I was greatly surprised at the sparse Appy crowd last night. Discontent in Dawgville?
